Jacqueline is one of the best matches models I’ve found when it comes to matching the moody and introspective feel I often try for in my work. We worked together really well and I’m sure we’ll do it again in the future. She was a pleasure to work with, and I love how interesting and beautiful her face and eyes are. Here’s a few, but there’s so many good ones that I’ll probably do a few posts as I work my way through editing.

I’m getting back into shooting more again and working with a couple new local models, including Chenai. She was great to work with, and had this amazing bright red hair that was a great match for the colour style I like. Here’s a few from that shoot.

White Rock Nude Beach

Lots of photographers here shoot at Wreck Beach, but it’s a long drive across town for me. A friend of mine lives out in the Fraser Valley and wanted to do a shoot with me. We met up in White Rock, where I discovered there is also a nude beach that is much easier for me to access than Wreck. Here’s one of the shots we got. The rest from this shoot are private, but I will be using this location in the future, I’m sure.

I did manage to fit in a few shoots with some travelling models who were coming through town. Bree came by for a couple of hours and we wandered down to my favourite area by the river to shoot. I shot lots of digital, but also managed to get a few rolls through the 6×7.

The last months have been quiet on the blog, as the rest of my life kindof fell apart. I’ve been rebuilding things, and refocusing on reconnecting with friends. I found out during in early summer that my wife had been having an affair for a month and we decided to separate soon afterwards. It was a pretty rough time for me, and I’ve mostly taken the last four months off of shooting. Most of my time has been taken up by my kids and spending as much time as possible with friends. Sitting in front of the computer to edit for hours at a time just wasn’t an option for the frame of mind I’ve been in. Things in the last few weeks have gotten better, and I’m starting to recover and get back into life. I shot the self portrait below a few days after the separation, at my emotional worst. Thankfully I’ve moved past that and I’ll try to post more of the fun stuff soon…

We couldn’t resist pulling over and shooting in one of the huge fields of daisies we saw while driving around the island.

Mt. Warburton Pike

Mt. Warburton Pike is the highest point on Saturna Island. If you look in the visitor guide to Saturna, you’ll also see it marked with a picture of a goat. Tessa was very excited to go see the goats, but our first attempt to go up there was on the rainy Friday. The drive up turned out to be a fair distance up a winding, single lane dirt road and got progressively foggier as we headed up. By the time we got to the top the visibility was about 15 feet, and it was very cold and damp. Tessa jumped out and we took a few shots while she looked for the goats, but it was a little too unpleasant to be fun.

The next day things had cleared up so we headed back up with the other models who had arrived Friday night. After sorting out our gas issues, we headed up the hill again. Part way up we stopped and played around in the dense forest for a bit… I’ll put a few of those on another post. Once we got to the top, we discovered a great view of the other islands down a long grassy field. It was perfect for the wider shots including background islands I wanted to do on this trip. We never saw the goats, though we did find evidence that we had to avoid sitting in.

Andromeda

Andromeda’s a new model from Model Mayhem I saw recently. She didn’t have much in her portfolio yet, but when I saw the dreadlocks I knew I should try to get her in for some casual stuff around my house. I’m trying to get better at setting up specific poses that I want for an image, and working with newer models is a good chance to practice that.

Saturna Island, Rhiana in the Cabin

The cabin I rented had really nice front windows that I couldn’t resist using for a set with Rhiana inside. We got some really nice stuff with some of the wardrobe she brought, and I discovered that I’m about 50/50 for choosing wardrobe myself. Hence the new “scalloped shirt” in-joke, a set of images that just don’t work, and a piece of wardrobe that will now be donated. Lesson learned, and we got to have a laugh about it. Here’s a few of Rhiana in some stuff she brought to wear that did work.
