Sometimes I end up with things that don’t really fit in a set, or one I really like out of a set that otherwise didn’t work. Here’s a couple like that from recent shoots…
Also, I joined 500px a couple weeks ago and my work has done pretty well there. The photo on the top right made it to the #1 spot on the popular photos for a bit. Follow me there if you’re a 500px member: Dream Theory Studios on 500px

A few models have happened to have stockings with them when doing some fine art shooting and I like how they look. I might keep doing some like these as a bit of a series, too.

I’ve done stuff like this in Photoshop before, but I thought it would be fun to try getting in camera. Came up with this style that I really like. I might have to do a series of photos shot this way. Thanks to Tara for letting me experiment a bit.

Tara, An Introduction

My style seems to be drifting somewhere between vintage film and fine art nudes lately. I like where it’s going, and will likely be doing a bunch more in this style. I’ve got a couple of fine art pieces in the PhotoHausGallery Eros show this Friday. Come down to the opening and say hi if you’re local!
I recently had an opportunity to shoot with Tara and she has quickly become one of my favourite people to work with. She’s beautiful, fun to shoot with, and has a natural grace that is a perfect match for my style. It doesn’t hurt that we have very similar taste in music! I’m really looking forward to continuing to shoot with her and create some great art. If all goes well, you’ll see much more of her here in the future. Here’s a short set from our shoot last week. You might see this location a fair amount in the future as I’ve finally found the best natural light in my house, but it’s fun to see what each model can do with it.

Mic, Sweater Sun

I’m going to put up a bunch of smaller, more focused sets over the next couple weeks. I’ve done a bunch of shooting with some great people, experimenting with different kinds of shooting and exploring some different looks. Instead of posting all the shots from each model, I’ll try to put them into smaller series that work together.
First up is Mic, who was great to shoot with. She’s beautiful and was perfect at getting the right poses and expressions for what we were trying to create. I’m not sure models really believe me when I suggest they bring a sweater, but here’s a great example of how well they can work.

Ashley was a blast to work with. It took us a little while to warm up but once she relaxed and we started having fun, we got some great shots

Here’s the stuff that’s a little different and combines some flash work. Still all in her tiny apartment.

Every once in a while you find someone whose look and natural posing completely suits your style and you get a set full of magic. Most recently for me, that was with Devan. We did a set just improvising with some fabric around her apartment and playing with a couple different looks in the light we had. In this part I’ll post some of the natural light ones, including some Portra film shot with a Pentax 6×7 medium format and some black and white film my old K1000. First off the digital…

And here’s a few of the ones scanned from film…

A Year in Review, Square and B&W

I’m about to archive last years shoots to my backup drive. As part of the cleanup I grabbed a bunch of out-takes, shots that didn’t make the first sets, funny stuff and Oz cameos (he loves meeting models when we shoot at my place). I did a lot more square crops and B&W this year, so I went with that theme for this review where it worked. A fun little trip down memory lane, in no particular order…

Liz got access to an old heritage house she used to live in. It was a great old place with lots of interesting detail. As usual, we had tons of fun working together and experimenting with different ideas for working with the location and lighting. I could probably spent a few more hours shooting there, but there’s only so much you can do in one afternoon. I really do love doing location shoots like these!
